This month at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC), we celebrate Occupational Wellness by embracing opportunities that inspire purpose, creativity, service, and lifelong learning. Whether enjoying music and art, volunteering in the community, exploring the Shenandoah Valley, or connecting with neighbors, June is filled with meaningful ways to stay involved and experience life together.

Arts & Performance Highlights
Enjoy a vibrant lineup of music, visual arts, and live entertainment throughout the month:
Harrisonburg-Rockingham Concert Band Performance: Enjoy an evening of traditional band music, popular favorites, and patriotic tunes on June 2 at 7:00 PM in Detwiler Auditorium.
Piano Music with Kathleen Haddad: Join resident Kathleen Haddad on June 4 at 3:00 PM in Detwiler Auditorium for an informal afternoon of piano requests, hymns, oldies, and sing-alongs.
Brahms Brunch: Pair a delicious brunch with the music of Johannes Brahms on June 5 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in Detwiler Auditorium featuring talented musicians from VMRC and the surrounding community.
First Friday Art Reception - Juried Art Exhibition: Celebrate the 2026 National Juried Art Exhibition on June 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the Park Gables Gallery with light refreshments and inspiring artwork.
Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival: Experience a week of exceptional music through VMRC-sponsored Bach Festival concerts and performances from June 8 through June 14 at various locations.
Trip to Guys & Dolls at Shenandoah Summer Musical Theatre: Travel to enjoy the classic musical Guys & Dolls on June 24 with a 2:30 PM performance followed by dinner on the return trip.
Community & Educational Events
Connect with others through engaging conversations, community service, and special campus gatherings:
“Main Street Buzz”: Hear updates about campus happenings and upcoming outings from Madison and Kyle on June 1 at 11:00 AM on Main Street near the Hartman Stairwell.
Trivia with Dr. Kyle: Gather with friends for a lively afternoon of general trivia and friendly competition on June 3 at 3:30 PM in the Main Street Café.
Resident & Staff Participation in United Way’s Day of Action: Join VMRC residents and staff for a meaningful day of community service supporting Adagio House on June 12 from 8:15 AM to 1:30 PM.
VMRC’s Farmers Market: Shop fresh produce from the Farm at Willow Run alongside handmade and locally sourced goods on June 18 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on the Main Street Patio and Lawn Area.
Trishaw Kickoff Event: Celebrate the launch of VMRC’s Trishaw Program with rides, refreshments, and information about Cycling Without Age on June 25 at 10:00 AM near the Wellness Center.
Spiritual Life
Join us for weekly worship services and meaningful opportunities for reflection and fellowship:
Sunday Worship: Join together every Sunday at 10:00 AM in Strite Auditorium for worship services featuring guest speakers, worship leaders, and special music.
Communion Service, Fellowship & Refreshments: All are welcome for a meaningful communion service led by local United Methodist pastors on June 18 at 2:00 PM in Strite Auditorium.
Vespers Service - Shenandoah Valley Biblical Storytellers: Experience Scripture brought to life through storytelling and worship on June 21 at 3:30 PM in Detwiler Auditorium.
Wednesday Evening Bible Study: Residents are invited to gather weekly for worship, fellowship, and Bible study every Wednesday at 7:00 PM in Detwiler Auditorium.

Beginner Pilates Class: Improve strength, flexibility, posture, and balance during this beginner-friendly Pilates series held Wednesdays and Fridays through June 26 in the Wellness Center Activity Studio.
Nourish Your Brain: Learn practical nutrition strategies that support brain health and healthy aging on June 17 at 1:30 PM in the Wellness Center Activity Studio.
Trip to Point of View Alpaca Farm & Lunch at Valley Pike Farm Market: Spend the day visiting alpacas, learning about agritourism, and enjoying a locally sourced meal on June 15.
Trip to Chiles Family Orchard in Crozet: Enjoy a blueberry picking experience complete with a wagon ride and orchard lunch on June 22.
Day Trip to Lexington: Explore historic Lexington with a horse carriage tour, shopping, dining, and time to stroll through town on June 4.

Art Makers Tuesdays: Residents are invited to create, craft, and explore artistic expression together on June 16 at 3:00 PM in Heritage Haven Activity Room 2A.
5 Crown & Mexican Train Dominoes: Enjoy weekly card and domino games while connecting with friends and neighbors throughout the month in Park Gables.
Knitting & Crochet Group - Project Linus: Gather weekly with fellow crafters to create meaningful handmade projects for others in need every Wednesday at 10:00 AM in the Park Gables 3rd Floor Lounge.
