Compassion in Action: The Great Community Give 2025

At VMRC, we believe in the quiet strength of compassion. It's not just a word we use; it's a value we put into action every day through the relationships we build, the care we provide, and the way we honor the lives of the residents in our community.

That’s why our Compassion Care Fund is so close to our hearts. It bridges the gap for residents who have outlived their financial resources through no fault of their own, ensuring that every person receives the same level of dignity and care. It’s not a burden. It’s our mission. And this April, you helped carry it forward.

On April 16th, during the Great Community Give, 147 organizations together raised $2.218 million. An amazing feat. That day, we set out with a hopeful goal: to raise $16,000, enough to provide 90 days of Compassion Care for one resident.

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we didn’t just meet that goal—we surpassed it. Together, we raised $46,372 for the Compassion Care Fund, enough to provide 258 days of Compassion Care for a resident who has outlived their financial resources.

Because of you, someone’s mother, brother, friend, or neighbor will continue to receive the care they deserve. And for that, we are humbled and grateful.

A special thank you to those who shared their stories and voices to champion our cause:

  • Senior Pastor Craig Maven of Harrisonburg Mennonite Church, whose spiritual leadership and support touched many.

  • Laura Evans, a local attorney whose work in elder law and estate planning aligns so closely with the values we uphold at VMRC.

  • Scott Richardson, our Vice President of Independent Living, whose passion for our residents shone through in every conversation.

  • Bitsy Folk, who has faithfully served VMRC as a housekeeper for eight years—her dedication to our community is inspiring.

  • Joan Brockington, a resident of VMRC for 15 years, who reminds us daily of the beauty and wisdom that comes with age.

  • Alden Hostetter, one of our board members, whose advocacy helps shape our vision every step of the way.

To every donor, every listener, and every friend who shared our message, you made this possible. You are part of a compassionate legacy that will carry forward into the lives of many.

Thank you for believing in our mission. Thank you for giving. And thank you for making a difference.

Sincerely,

Your Friends at VMRC
