Memory Care
Compassionate, Individualized Care
Just as our physical health requires attention with age, so does the need for memory care. While some individuals may continue to live independently with slight changes in their memory; others will require assisted living or nursing care. VMRC emphasizes caring for individuals by focusing on their remaining abilities, interests and memories wherever they reside in our retirement community.
Neighborhoods within our Assisted Living community are specifically designated for persons who can benefit from the additional memory care support. Assisted Living staff are certified dementia trained to understand current practices in care and support.
Three Elements Critical To Memory Care
Our all-encompassing approach of service and support for residents and family members is defined by these key elements:
-
Continuity of Care
Consistent assignment gives residents who have memory loss the familiarity of a care team. Residents become familiar with their caregivers, and staff get to know residents as individuals knowing their likes and dislikes.
-
Residence Options & Choices
We provide several living options for people who are experiencing memory loss. Each option supports the appropriate care level needed. Our designated memory care neighborhoods are modeled after the warmth and design of a home – offering private bedrooms and bathrooms and common living and meal spaces.
-
Holistic Support for Residents
We help residents by creating opportunities for their success. Engagement such as helping to fold laundry, setting a table, caring for plants or assisting at an event allows for a sense of accomplishment and a continued sense of purpose for people living with memory impairment.
Memory Care Neighborhoods Emphasize Cozy Living
The communal design includes common areas for socialization and visits from family and friends. Attention is given to interaction among residents, their social needs and abilities and fostering a calm, caring environment.
Our care team includes chaplains and social workers who offer support to residents and their families. Caring Friends are resident volunteers who enjoy visiting with other residents looking for additional companionship and engagement while receiving memory care.
